De Standaard, a Flemish-language Belgian daily, carried a report titled “A Creationist Book for French-Speaking Schools” on 24 March, 2007. The report, by Peter De Backer, stated:
“All the schools in Wallonia have received books sent out for the struggle against Darwinism... This 800-page book objects to Darwin’s theory of evolution. The book, based on the Qur’an, espouses creation… The Turkish author, Harun Yahya (Adnan Oktar’s pen name) holds the adherents of Darwin responsible for terror.
The thousands of photographs of fossils in the coffee-table book-sized Atlas show that life forms dating back to prehistory are the same as specimens living today. According to the author, this fact directly proves that living things did not evolve, for which reason Darwin’s theory of evolution is completely erroneous.
The book has been sent out to thousands of schools in France, Germany and Holland. And now the French-speaking part of Belgium is receiving the books. In the Flanders region only universities have so far been targeted...“
