Surat Al-Jumu'a, 5 (Only learning religion do not guide a person to the right path)

The metaphor of those who were charged with the Torah but then have not upheld it, is that of a donkey loaded with weighty tomes. How evil is the metaphor of those who deny Allah’s Signs! Allah does not guide wrongdoing people.

There indeed are some scholars with a lot of knowledge of the verses. They have learned the Qur’an and the hadiths off by heart, but there is nothing about them that can be instrumental in salvation, no love, and no affection. They have no respect for the Qur’an. They are obviously weak in faith. There are professors in chairs of Qur’anic studies in Russia, they know the Qur’an by heart but are atheist. Reading the Qur’an is not, as people imagine, a direct path to salvation. You need signs leading to faith, miracles of the Qur’an that will cause people to love Allah, the kind of language that will show people the true miracles of our Prophet (saas). Otherwise, the Qur’an can lead some people into depravity; it would not be as they expect it to be.  There is a verse about it, Allah reveals the following" What has been sent down to you from your Lord increases many of them in insolence and unbelief " It can be instrumental in their denial. That is why one needs a rational, warm way of talking about things, one based on signs leading to faith.
