Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Muslims play a great role in maintaining the civil peace, developing the spiritual values and attaining international respectability.

Medvedev is the first Russian Leader who visited the 105 years old mosque that remains as a Muslim center in Moscow and thus heard about broadening process of its building from Ravil Gaynuttin, the chairman of Russian Mufti Council. “Broadening such a comprehensive mosque proves that the Muslims stand for the spiritual legacy as well as the State’s respect and interest in people believing Islam.” said Medyedev. Medvedev also expressed that Islamic formations take important part in ensuring the civil peace, advancing spiritual values while being up against the extremists. Russian leader also declared that he will help Muslims in government’s establishment of the education system and bringing up imams.
When the work is completed, the little mosque that is called “Tatar Mosque” or “Central Mosque” will allow some thousands of people to pray all together. While the length of the minaret is planned to be 70 meters, Turkey exists among the sponsor countries. 144 million people lives in Russia and some 20 million is Muslim.
