How should a Muslim speak?

2007

By Avoiding Speech That Conducts Evil

Believers endeavor that every word they speak is in a merciful manner that is compatible with the Qur’an. They seek to bring up subjects that will benefit other believers, draw them closer to Allah, give them enthusiasm, peace and security, comfort them, and cheer them up. They take great care to avoid talking about subjects that will chill or disconcert them, distract them for no reason and cause distress or delusion in their hearts.

People with a hypocritical character try to draw one another to a manner that is against the morality of the Qur’an, encourage unlawful acts, cause one to love the life of this world and pay no heed to the Hereafter and encourage dark deeds. It is seen that these people  always demonstrate an enthusiastic attitude about these subjects that have nothing to do with the moral values of the Qur’an. They use an attitude that aims to cause such notions forbidden by Allah to become widespread among believers.

The ideas suggested to believers by the hypocrites are always far removed from the moral values of the Qur’an and are of a manner that reflects the dark spirit of unbelievers. Believers who recognize this manner of speech immediately know, as soon as this kind of person begins to speak, that he could hasten to an evil reasoning, listen to him carefully and call him to live by the morality of the Qur’an.
