Sawsan Chebli was hired by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the foreign minister of Germany, as deputy spokesperson. This German Muslim young woman has made history being hired as the first Muslim deputy spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry in the West European country. Sawsan describes herself as a pious Muslim and says, “You might not see it from my appearance, as I don‘t wear a head scarf, but I do pray. I do fast. I don‘t eat pork and I don‘t drink alcohol." Germany has Europe's second-largest Muslim population after France, and Islam comes third in Germany after Protestant and Catholic Christianity.
