St. Luke’s Episcopal Church rector Elizabeth Mollard expresses her thoughts regarding the copy of Atlas of Creation that was dispatched to her in a letter published on the web site:
This week, a delivery service brought me a large, heavy package. I wondered what it could be, because I hadn’t ordered anything recently. When I opened it up, it turned out to be a huge book weighing at least 10 pounds, lavishly illustrated, from an anonymous donor. The title is “Atlas of Creation.” Inside are illustrations showing all kinds of fossils. The author says these photos prove that creatures have not changed one iota for millions of years. The fossils refute evolution, he says. God created every living thing on earth.
… I do agree with his basic point – God has created every living thing, from prehistoric crabs to human beings.
Summertime is a good time to reflect on creation, because we see it in all its glory …
We praise God for having created “the vast expanse of interstellar space” and “this fragile earth, our island home.”
The earth and all living things are God’s creation, not ours. We ourselves are God’s creation. We haven’t created the earth – God has … God is our creator …
God asks us to care for one another. For we are all part of God’s wonderful creation.
