Surah Hud, 49

Allah addresses our Prophet (pbuh); “That is some of the news of the Unseen which We reveal to you.” You do not know secret knowledge, but I reveal it to you, Allah says. “Neither you nor your people knew it before this time.” Therefore, the prophet does not know secret knowledge, but he reveals knowledge revealed to him through secret knowledge.  “He is the Knower of the Unseen, and does not divulge His Unseen to anyone” (Surat al-Jinn, 26) One cannot attain secret knowledge when one desires it. Not when one wants to have it. “except a Messenger with whom He is well pleased, and then He posts sentinels before him and behind him.” (Surat al-Jinn, 27) Allah says He will also give them secret knowledge. I bestow knowledge, and they tell you. Not in the sense of what they regard as secret knowledge. Knowledge about secret knowledge is transmitted to you. “Allah has not given you access to the Unseen.”  You cannot know about secret knowledge, Allah says. “But Allah chooses those of His Messengers whom He wills.” (Surat al-‘Imran, 179)He reveals secret knowledge to them.
