Obedience or rebellion?

1349

Obedience, which is one of the clearest indications of our loyalty to Allah is a very important part of worship commanded in many verses of the Qur'an. According to the verses, this worship is the key to success for earning the mercy and compassion which comes from Allah, for the attainment of Paradise and for achieving success against deniers. It should not be forgotten that when the way of faith, which is based on obeying the commandments of Allah and obtaining His good pleasure and mercy and Paradise is abandoned, the way of rebellion against our Lord is chosen.This rebellion consists of making one's selfish desires a deity and will result in great loss in this World and eternal torment in Hell in the Hereafter.

To be able to say "We hear and we obey" is a source of honor.

Such as the Qur'an says, for a believer to be able to say "we hear and we obey" is a source of the greatest joy in this World for a believer. Obedience to Allah Who created him, and Who directs him on the straightest path and promises him the attainment Paradise is the source of the greatest peace of mind, happiness and glory for the believer. Obedience is the source of many blessings, as stated in this verse from the Qur'an;

"The messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers; they all believe in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers; We make no difference between any of His messengers; and they say: We hear and obey, our Lord! Thy forgiveness (do we crave), and to Thee is the eventual course." (Surat al-Baqara, 285)

Believers maintain their obedience in every situation

Obedience to petty ideas or trifiling regualtions can be shown by unbelievers time to time. However unconditional obedience, despite the difficulty and stress sometimes involved, is a unique feature of the believers. The story of Talut in the Qur'an is an important example of the sincere obedience of the believers;

"So when Talut departed with the forces, he said: Surely Allah will try you with a river; whoever then drinks from it, he is not of me, and whoever does not taste of it, he is surely of me, except he who takes with his hand as much of it as fills the hand; but with the exception of a few of them they drank from it. So when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him, they said: We have today no power against Talut and his forces. Those who were sure that they would meet their Lord said: How often has a small party vanquished a numerous host by Allah's permission, and Allah is with the patient." (Surat al-Baqara, 249)

As stated in the above verse, the ones who did not obey the order of Talut remained weak.The believers who obeyed Talut without compromising their moral obligations gained power from Allah and became victorious even though their numbers remained small by the Will of Allah.

Obedience takes people to Eternal Salvation.

Obedience is a clear indication of the persons belief in Allah and his acceptance of being His devoted servant. Obedience is the value which will lead a person to Eternal Salvation and a Glorious Eternal Life.

"These are Allah's limits, and whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will cause him to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide in them; and this is the great achievement." (Surat an-Nisa, 13)

Ego hinders Obedience.

Ego (Pride) is one of the primary characteristics of satan, and satan was pushed out from Allah's presence because of his ego and disobedience. The person who shares this attribute of satan has his mind clouded, his conscience closed and strays away from the straight path of Allah. By behaving in this way, it becomes impossible for him to think rationally and thus comprehend the infinite power of Allah and understand his own smallness and weakness before Him; as a result, the feelings of fear, awe and respect for Allah can not be increased. This situation results in a person‘s choosing the false path of rebellion instead of the true path of religious morals.

"And when We made a covenant with you and raised the mountain over you: Take hold of what We have given you with firmness and be obedient. They said: We hear and disobey..." (Surat al Baqara, 93)

Disobedience causes loss of Power.

The success of the believers against the disbelievers in all their efforts depends on their obedience to Allah, the sole Owner of Authority.  If the believers obey this verse, "O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority from among you..." (Surat an- Nisa,59) surely Allah will support the believers and give them every success. However the opposite is also true. If the believers do not obey the commandments of our Lord,  they lose their power against the deniers; the story of Talut which has been given as an example is the clearest sample of it.

The ones who disobey face bitter punishment.

Obedience is the key to Eternal Salvation. Hell is the place of the person who does not obey and goes on a different way than the morality of the True Religion and the sure path of our Lord, Almighty Allah;

"And whoever acts hostilely to the Messenger after that guidance has become manifest to him, and follows other than the way of the believers, We will turn him to that to which he has (himself) turned and make him enter Hell; and it is an evil abode." (Surat an-Nisa,115)
