A believer’s entire standard of judgment is based on the moral values of the Qur’an. Love is one of them. A believer only loves Allah, and those who love Allah in turn. He feels antipathy and disquiet against the enemies of Allah and His believers. This is a clear and certain measure, which Allah has defined in the Qur’an, and a believer cannot feel and act in any other way as a natural consequence of faith. He does this by feeling it in a sincere way. His love for Allah and His believers increases as much as his faith. Therefore, a believer cannot have such a point of view other than this measure, even for his closest relatives. In the verses, this is revealed as such:
You will not find people who have faith in Allah and the Last Day having love for anyone who opposes Allah and His Messenger, though they be their fathers, their sons, their brothers or their clan. Allah has inscribed faith upon such people’s hearts and will reinforce them with a Soul from Him and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing under them, remaining in them timelessly, forever. Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. Such people are the party of Allah. Truly it is the party of Allah who are successful. (Surat al-Mujadala, 22)
You who have faith! Do not take My enemy and your enemy as friends, showing love for them when they have rejected the truth that has come to you, driving out the Messenger and yourselves simply because you have faith in Allah your Lord. If you go out to struggle against in My Way and seeking My pleasure, keeping secret the love you have for them, know best what you conceal and what you make known. Any of you who do that have strayed from the right way. (Surah Mumtahana, 1)
