We are living at a time in which not a single day passes by that we do not hear or read reports from all over the world depicting the deplorable conditions of Muslims living in refugee camps in Myanmar, of Muslims whose houses and schools are razed to the ground in Syria, of Muslims who are under siege, whose countries are under attack in Gaza, in Iraq, etc. Every day we are waking up to a world full of violence and hatred. It is clearly seen that the suffering that is at the door of our neighbor today could well be knocking at our door tomorrow or the day after.
Anyone with a good conscience would accept the fact that the world needs a new system to live by. This is the time to acknowledge that we, as believers, should forge an alliance to overcome these dark days. This is the time to realize the fact that love and unity is the only way out from this dire situation because when we get to the bottom of it all, we see that people’s lack of love, their intolerance towards different ideas and different life styles, their inability to live together as brothers have taken them hostage and made them forget what God has commanded in the Qur’an:
“Hold fast to the rope of Allah all together, and do not separate. Remember God´s blessing to you when you were enemies and He joined your hearts together so that you became brothers by His blessing. You were on the very brink of a pit of the Fire and He rescued you from it. In this way God makes His Signs clear to you, so that hopefully you will be guided.” (Surah Al-Imran; 103)
As we can clearly see from the verse above, God makes His Signs clear to us, for us to be guided and to become brothers by His blessing. All the troubles Muslims of the world are facing today can be solved by seeing God’s Signs and realizing that joining hearts and becoming brothers is our only way out.
When we join hearts, we will see that the troubles of our brothers in Myanmar, in the refugee camps, the troubles of our brothers in Syria or in Gaza, are actually our own. We will see that finding a solution to one alone is not possible; that salvation will be attained either for all of them or it will not be possible at all. That is because the solution for the problems of the Muslim world will not be a political one nor it will be a military solution.
We need to change the language we are speaking; we need to start talking with the language of love and understanding, we need to change our priorities. Looking at social media, we come across two different groups of people; one group is completely foreign to the problems of the world and is only interested with their own worldly issues and the other group – albeit appearing to be very concerned about the situation of Muslims in Gaza, in Myanmar, in Syria, etc. – cannot offer any solution other than mourning the losses or inciting further conflicts. Actually neither “mourning” nor “fighting” can bring about anything more than other losses.
First and foremost we need to realize that violence is not a solution and it will only bring about more violence and we should start talking the language of love, the language of peace. The new system the world needs is the system of love; the system of peace. When we embrace this fact and start looking for what we can do individually to make things better for the believers of the world we will come to realize that we should focus on our commonalities not our differences, that we should offer a loving hand to those we have problems with and we should find ways to overcome the obstacles in front of our becoming brothers and living in peace. This way forward lies in keeping our calm and making our opponents see that we are not a threat to them; it also means showing the whole world how enlightened and how modern and how loving a Muslim is. In one way or another when we, people of belief, come together and act as one we will become the solution for all the oppressed people of the world. As our Lord said in the Qur’an;
“What reason could you have for not striving in the Way of God — for those men, women and children who are oppressed and say, ´Our Lord, take us out of this city whose inhabitants are wrongdoers! Give us a protector from You! Give us a helper from You!´?” (Surat An-Nisa; 75)
