This report describing how the number of schools in Austria providing an Islamic education is increasing day by day carried analyses by Enes Shakfeh, the representative of Muslims in Austria. Shakfeh states that Islam first entered the Austrian school curriculum in 1982-1983, since when there has been a rapid rise in the number of students studying Islam.
“At that time there were just 5 teachers for 200-220 students…Today, however, the number of Muslim teachers has risen to 300, and the number of schools in Austria as a whole in which Islam is taught has risen to 1800. Students from 3000 different schools are coming to those schools in which Islam is taught in order to learn about the faith… MANY AUSTRIAN CHRISTIANS HAVE BECOME MUSLIMS.”
