Italian government took action to establish a committee that will represent the Muslim community whose population is over 1 million and 300 thousand, with the directive of Prime Minister Berlusconi.  The Ministry of Internal Affairs set up a committee of 19 members that could become an official authority for Islamic institutions and imams. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Roberto Maroni named the formation as “Italian Islam Committee”. According to an article published in Sabah newspaper, the committee is composed of imams, journalists, lawyers, academicians and representatives of institutions.  The committee is to act like a think tank where problems of Muslims in Italy are discussed.
