Department of Islamic Research to be opened in a German University

The Senate of Goethe University decided to open “Islamic Research” Department for three years of bachelor level program as of the fall semester of 2010/11.

With the decision of Senate, Goethe University will be the first to implement the recommendation of Science Information Council (Wissenschaftsrat) about establishing an “Islamic Research” Department. Among other goals, giving basic lessons covering Islamic Culture and History for the beginners as well as providing the background for establishing a connection between the basic methods of Islam theology, issues and other social sciences are the prior ones. Besides these, the interpretation procedure lessons that will provide the opportunity for historical and philological text analysis are to be included in the curriculum.
