''Communism and fascism gather their support through a chain of fear. Everyone who is afraid of communism where it is in the majority will say, 'I am a communist'''

“Communism depends on a chain of fear. For example, someone does not pray or fast because he is afraid of the PKK. He does not speak of Allah or go to the mosque. He says he is a communist because he is afraid of the PKK. Then he convinces himself he is a communist. “Why should I not be a communist? What have I got to lose?”, he asks. And then he becomes a real communist. Human beings are weak. They can be conditioned into becoming communists. That is why the only fight against communism and the PKK can be a cultural, scholarly and intellectual one.”

Communism uses a triggering method. For example, if 10 people are communists and they enter a community of 30 people, those 30 will say, “We are also communists” out of fear. Then those 30 go to a community of 60 and say, “We are communists” but they have only become communists out of fear. Then 60 people say they are communists, and it becomes a chain reaction. Then those 60 go to 600 people, and they also say they are communists.

Communism is based on a chain of fear because people think they will have problems if they say anything else. “I may as well say I am a communist and save my own skin,” they say. This is a very grave danger. Chain communism is spreading in the Southeast. For example, someone does not pray or fast because he is afraid of the PKK. He does not speak of Allah or go to the mosque. He says he is a communist because he is afraid of the PKK. And he wants to believe in communism, and since he wants to, after some time he does believe in it. In other words, the communist mentality that first emerges through fear in time leads him to be a real communist. And he becomes a real communist. It all starts with fear then it becomes real.

It was like that with fascism in Italy. The Blackshirts would go  somewhere in Italy. “We are fascists, what are you?” they would ask. The people there would say, “We have been fascists for ages. We are genuine fascists.” They suddenly say, “We are fascists,” even though they completely disagree with it. Then they convince themselves that they are fascists. “Why should I not be a fascist?” or “Why should I not be a communist?” people say.  “What have I got to lose? Then they become real communists. Ankara was like that in the past. They would come to schools from high schools and universities and say, “What views do you hold?” That person would say, “I am a Leftist.” “We thought so,” they would say, “That is the only human way of thinking. Of course we are all communists.” That person would then think, “Well, since I have to be here for five years I may as well be a real communist rather than just pretend to be one.”

Allah says in a verse that man was created weak: Allah desires to make things lighter for you. Man was created weak.” (Surat an-Nisa’, 28)

Human beings are weak. They can be conditioned into becoming communists. That is why the only fight against communism and the PKK can be a cultural, scholarly and intellectual one. Look, my colleagues took the Atlas of Creation and put it in the mosques. Then imagine someone from the PKK entering that mosque. He opens it up and reads three or four pages. How can he remain a communist? He cannot believe in it any more, even if he wants to because he has seen with his own eyes. Even if he tries to wrestle with himself, he will be too weak: His brain will not allow it, his brain will rebel. That is why we must first win over people’s minds.

Allah says, “We hurl the truth against falsehood and it cuts right through it… Rather We hurl the truth against falsehood and it cuts right through it and it vanishes clean away! Woe without end for you for what you portray! (Surat al-Anbiya’, 18)

That is why we must first win over people’s brains. How can you win over people’s brains? If you put the Atlas of Creation in front of someone  and he looks at three or four  pages and sees the photographs, he will see that nothing has ever changed. Now he can wriggle all he likes, but there is this property in the mind that once it remembers something it will never let it go. He may say, ”I want to forget,” but the mind will tell him there is no way to do that. He may say, “I do not want to believe” but the mind will say, “I am the boss here. You have seen it, and you know it is true. Stop trying to fight it.” He will have to give in to his mind.  It is the mind which gives its backing and support: One becomes a friend through one’s mind. People who read my books have no option but to surrender to their mind if they held mistaken views previously.  (Adnan Oktar, January 2013: A9 TV)
