Aysenur Helen ,formerly strict Catholic Christian and also a gifted singer and musician was born in the Philippines, converted to Islam after having knowledge gained through reading Islamic books written by scholars and masters in Islam. She started her research on Islam when she met with Muslim people during her study at Conservatory of Music in Cologne (Koeln), Germany.
Aysenur Helen told that when she became a Muslim, her own family turned against her. She also added that in the Philippines, Muslims who involve 7 % of the total population are exposed to great oppression and tens of them are killed every day.
“But Muslims never feel desperation. Islam is their source of hope.” said Aysenur Helen. She also explained that since her childhood, she was told that Islam was not a real faith and said: “What impressed me first is the meaning of the Surat al-Fatiha which I have heard a friend of mine when I am 16 years old.”
Helen stated that Muslims should represent Islam in the best way and become role models. Then she added: “… I read 33rd Word of Risale-i Nur Collection by Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. The name of Allah is remembered in an excellent way in that book.”
