An opening ceremony for a mosque and Islamic center, the first since the Ottoman era, has been held in the town of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. The opening was attended by Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Josip Leko, Bosnian member of Bosnia’s tripartite state presidency Bakir Izetbegoviç, the religious leader of Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein Kavazovic, Zagreb Mufti Aziz Hasanovic, Archbishop of Zagreb Cardinal Josip Bozanic, Qatari Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghaith bin Mubarak Al-Kuwari, Turkish Ambassador to Zagreb Burak Özügergin, General Manager of the Turkish Ziraat Bank Bosnia Ali Rıza Akbaş, other officials from Turkey, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Qatar and more than 20,000 Muslims from regional countries.
