Every flake of paint on a scruffy-looking building contains millions of molecules and trillions of atoms. Each one is a miracle in its own right. Allah has concealed perfection in every detail. Whatever they may look like from the outside, they all have the same crystal design, the perfect, geometrical and unspoilable structure. In the same way that the flaky paint gives that building a run-down look, there is still a matchless, astounding and amazing artistry within it.
A weed growing up between cracks in the pavement, that people walk over without even noticing, is still a miracle equipped with special mechanisms and magnificent systems, possessing extraordinarily complex but fundamental organelles such as the chromosome, ribosome, mitochondrion and endoplasmic reticulum in each and every cell, that is given life and kept alive by the will of Allah.
Every thread in the woolen carpet we stand on possesses all the information regarding the living thing from which it once came. A single grain of salt contains a whole world made up of molecules and atoms that constantly revolve around one another, and are bound to one another with a glorious design. But not a single one ever leaves its orbit or has its equilibrium impaired, unless Allah so wills it.
Everywhere is full of evidence of the existence of Allah. Flaky paint on a building or a thread of carpet are sufficient to establish faith in Allah for hearts capable of grasping our Lord’s greatness, might and power. Allah, the Lord and Creator of all living things, displays His matchless and eternal beauty and glorious creations at every point and in every single entity. Just a single one of these is sufficient cause to believe in Allah. In one verse our Lord says:
Allah is He Who splits the seed and kernel. He brings forth the living from the dead, and produces the dead out of the living. That is Allah, so how are you perverted? (Sura al-An’am, 95)
