Another subject evolutionists propounded in the 19th century but which has been totally refuted in our day is “altruism in animals.” According to Darwin's unscientific claim, life is based on a struggle between the weak and the strong. According to this erroneous theory, a natural selection occurs as a result of the defeat of the weak by the strongest. The same flawed rationale follows that the strongest and healthiest candidates deserve the right to live. This is a war waged for life at the end of which the strong are doomed to triumph while the weak to disappear.
Is this really the case? The answer lies in behaviors of living beings. Contrary to the claims of evolutionists, an analysis into the lives of living beings reveal extremely surprising, extraordinarily beautiful examples of altruism and solidarity. While altruistic and cooperative behaviors of living beings once again reveal the invalidity of the theory of evolution it also provides the evidence of a very important fact: It is All-Mighty Allah Who created the entire universe and each living being behaves under the inspiration of Allah.
One of the examples of altruism in living beings that evolutionists fail to explain is the spermaceti whale that leaves its calf to a caregiver before going to hunting.
Scientists from St. Andrews, Durham and Dalhousie Universities explained that spermaceti whales make a division of labor among themselves to look after one another’s calves before going to hunting. While the calves can not remain in deep ocean for a an extended period of time, their parents dive into 700 meters depth to hunt. Meanwhile the calves waiting together in a region close to the surface are protected from killer whales.
Spermaceti whales are the biggest among female whales in the ocean, with a length of up to 20 meters and a weight of up to 50 tons. However, this gigantic whale is also very self sacrificing. In order to provide sustenance to its calves, it makes a number of arrangements. If almost acts consciously, aware that the calves need to be first protected against killer whales and then to be fed. According to Darwin's theory, leaving all the calves behind, the whale had to secure its own life first. However, the spermaceti whale watches its own calf as well as the others. Even if the whale itself is at risk, it primarily thinks about its calves' safety. The whale acts in a spirit of mercy, compassion, and self-sacrifice that evolutionists cannot explain.
Why does the whale act under the instinct of protecting its calves? How is it aware of the calves’ needs? How does it feel that the calves are in danger and why does it show such altruism to eliminate the danger? It is impossible for an animal that lacks conscious to display such features by itself. It is our Lord, the most Merciful Who makes mercy, compassion, love, and self-sacrifice manifest in animals. The sole possessor of love, mercy and compassion is Allah. He creates these examples to make us think and understand that everything in-between the heavens and the Earth belongs to our Lord, Who is infinitely merciful, and to make us grasp that Allah is the only power Who holds everything under His control. Every man of wisdom and conscience would easily grasp that these behaviors could only happen by Allah’s Will. As Allah also states in the Qur’an:
And in the creation of yourselves and the fact that animals are scattered (through the Earth), are Signs for those of assured Faith ( Surat al-Jathiyya, 4 )
