Various religious representatives from different European countries as well as the presidents of the E.U. corporations came together at a meeting organized by the E.U. in Brussels in order to discuss how to struggle against poverty and establish social solidarity.
The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso complimented on the willpower of the religious communities in the struggle against poverty and expressed that this kind of approach is especially important during times of economic crisis. Barroso also stated that the economic crisis affected many people deeply but the charity foundations and the faith in religion provided great support both materially and morally in order to overcome this formidable period and thus it bears great significance.
