THE RELIGIOUS OBLIGATION FOR ALL BELIEVERS TO BE UNITED

Hold fast to the rope of Allah all together, and do not separate. Remember Allah’s blessing to you when you were enemies and He joined your hearts together so that you became brothers by His blessing. You were on the very brink of a pit of the Fire and He rescued you from it. In this way Allah makes His Signs clear to you, so that hopefully you will be guided.(Surah Al ’Imran, 103)

TO BE UNITED AND WAGE AN INTELLECTUAL STRUGGLE

Let there be a community among you who call to the good, and enjoin the right, and forbid the wrong. They are the ones who have success. (Surah Al ’Imran, 104)

BELIEVERS ARE NOT TO FALL INTO DIVISION

Do not be like those who split up and differed after the Clear Signs came to them. They will have a terrible punishment. (Surah Al ’Imran, 105)

THE OBLIGATION TO STRIVE UNTIL NO MORE DISCORD IS LEFT

Fight them until there is no more discord and the religion is Allah’s alone. If they stop, Allah sees what they do. (Surat al-Anfal, 39)

TO KEEP THE RELIGION ALIVE AND NOT FALL INTO DIVISION

He has laid down the same religion for youas He enjoined on Nuh: that which We have revealed to you and which We enjoined on Ibrahim, Musa and ‘Isa: ‘Establish the religion and do not make divisions in it.’ What you call the idolaters to follow is very hard for them. Allah chooses for Himself anyone He wills and guides to Himself those who turn to Him. (Surat ash-Shura, 13)

PEOPLE POSSESSED OF KNOWLEDGE FALLING INTO DIVISION DESPITE KNOWING THE TRUTH

They only split up after knowledge came to them, tyrannising one another. And were it not for a prior decree from your Lord for a specified term, the judgement between them would already have been made. Those who inherited the Book after them are indeed in grave doubt about it. (Surat ash-Shura, 14)

LOSING HOPE IN ALLAH’S MERCY

Say (from Me): ‘My servants, you who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Truly Allah forgives all wrong actions. He is the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.’ (Surat az-Zumar, 53)

NOT TO QUARREL, BUT TO BE UNITED

Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not quarrel among yourselves lest you lose heart and your momentum disappear. And be steadfast. Allah is with the steadfast. (Surat al-Anfal, 46)

THERE WILL BE CORRUPTION ON EARTH UNLESS BELIEVERS ARE UNITED

Those who disbelieve are the friends and protectors of one another. If you do not act in this way there will be turmoil in the land and great corruption. (Surat al-Anfal, 73)

FOR MUSLIMS TO BE UNITED WHEN THEY ARE ATTACKED

(Believers are) those who, when they are wronged, defend themselves. (Surat ash-Shura, 39)

TO STRIVE TOGETHER IN RANKS AND UNITY

Allah loves those who fight in His Way in ranks like well-built walls. (Surat as-Saff, 4)

THOSE WHO DIVIDE THEIR RELIGION AND FORM GROUPS AMONG THEMSELVES

As for those who divide up their religion and form into sects, you have nothing whatsoever to do with them. Their affair will go back to Allah and then He will inform them about what they did. (Surat al-An’am, 159)

FAMILIES OR BUSINESS BEING PREFERRED OVER THE INTELLECTUAL STRUGGLE

Say: ‘If your fathers or your sons or your brothers or your wives or your tribe, or any wealth you have acquired, or any business you fear may slump, or any house which pleases you, are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His Way, then wait until Allah brings about His command. Allah does not guide people who are deviators.’ (Surat at-Tawba, 24)

ALLAH'S PROMISE OF DOMINION

Allah has promised those of you who believe and do right actions that He will make them successors in the land as He made those before them successors, and will firmly establish for them their religion with which He is pleased and give them, in place of their fear, security. ‘They worship Me, not associating anything with Me.’ Any who disbelieve after that, such people are deviators. (Surat an-Nur, 55)

WAGING AN INTELLECTUAL STRUGGLE ON ALLAH’S PATH

It (the transaction which will save you from a painful punishment) is to believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the Way of Allah with your wealth and your selves. That is better for you if you only knew. (Surat as-Saff, 11)

And how is it with you that you do not give in the Way of Allah, when the inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah? Those of you who gave and fought before the Victory are not the same as those who gave and fought afterwards. They are higher in rank. But to each of them Allah has promised the Best. Allah is aware of what you do. (Surat al-Hadid, 10)

TO PREVENT CORRUPTION ON EARTH

Would that there had been more people with a vestige of good among the generations of those who came before you, who forbade corruption in the earth, other than the few among them whom We saved. Those who did wrong gladly pursued the life of luxury that they were given and were evildoers. (Surat al-Hud, 116)

BEING A COMMUNITY WHO CALL PEOPLE TO THE GOOD

Let there be a community among you who call to the good, and enjoin the right, and forbid the wrong. They are the ones who have success (Surah Al ’Imran, 104)

THOSE WHO SEEK TO HINDER GOOD, THE DOUBTERS AND THE AGGRESSIVE

(Custodians of Hell will be told,) ‘Hurl into Hell every obdurate disbeliever, impeder of good, doubt-causing aggressor... (Surat al-Qaf, 24-25)

TO STRIVE ON BEHALF OF THE WEAK

What reason could you have for not fighting in the Way of Allah–for those men, women and children who are oppressed and say, ‘Our Lord, take us out of this city whose inhabitants are wrongdoers! Give us a protector from You! Give us a helper from You!’? (Surat an-Nisa, 75)

TO STRIVE AGAINST THE FRIENDS OF SATAN

Those who believe fight in the Way of Allah. Those who disbelieve fight in the way of false gods. So fight the friends of Satan! Satan’s scheming is always feeble. (Surat an-Nisa, 76)

TO PREPARE AND ENCOURAGE BELIEVERS FOR THE STRUGGLE

So strive in the way of Allah–you are only answerable for yourself–and spur on the believers. It may well be that Allah will curb the force of those who disbelieve. Allah has greater force and greater power to punish. (Surat an-Nisa, 84)

TO MAKE NO CONCESSIONS ON THE STRUGGLE

Do not relax in pursuit of the enemy. If you feel pain, they too are feeling it just as you are, but you hope for something from Allah which they cannot hope for. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise (Surat an-Nisa, 104)

NOT TO TAKE UNBELIEVERS AS FRIENDS

Do those who take the disbelievers as protectors, rather than the believers, hope to find power and strength with them? Power and strength belong entirely to Allah. (Surat an-Nisa, 139)

You who believe! Do not take the disbelievers as friends rather than the believers. Do you want to give Allah clear proof against you? (Surat an-Nisa, 144)

Do you not see those who have turned to people with whom Allah is angry? They belong neither to you nor to them. And they swear to falsehood and do so knowingly. Allah has prepared a terrible punishment for them. How evil is what they have been doing! They made their oaths into a cloak and barred the Way of Allah, so they will have a humiliating punishment. (Surat al-Mujadala, 14-16)

You who believe! Do not take My enemy and your enemy as friends, showing love for them when they have rejected the truth that has come to you, driving out the Messenger and yourselves simply because you believe in Allah your Lord. If you go out to strive in My Way and seeking My pleasure, keeping secret the love you have for them, I know best what you conceal and what you make known. Any of you who do that have strayed from the right way. (Surat al-Mumtahana, 1)

TO ARGUE WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK IN THE FINEST WAY

Only argue with the People of the Book in the kindest way–except in the case of those of them who do wrong–saying, ‘We believe in what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to you. Our God and your God are one and we submit to Him.’ (Surat al-Ankabut, 46)

Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and fair admonition, and argue with them in the kindest way. Your Lord knows best who is misguided from His way. And He knows best who are guided.. (Suat an-Nahl, 125)
