One of the unrealistic claims made by certain people is that “since the Prophet Muhammad (saas) was the last prophet, the Prophet Jesus (as) will not be coming.”
It first needs to be made clear that, as revealed in verse 40 of Surat al-Ahzab, our Prophet (saas) is the messenger of Allah and the last prophet. And the return to earth of the Prophet Jesus (as) will not alter that fact, contrary to what some people suggest. The Prophet Jesus (as) will not come as a prophet who will be sent after the Prophet Muhammed (saas), but as a messenger who maintains the law of the Prophet Muhammad (saas) and causes the moral values of the religion to rule the world.
The fact that the Prophet Jesus (as) will come as a follower of the Qur’an and the Sunna of our Prophet (saas) is set out as follows in the hadiths:
“(The Prophet Jesus) will rule for forty (40) years with the book of Allah and my Sunna, and then die.”(Suyuti, al-I'lam bi Hükmi Isa, Süleymaniye Library, No. 1446/9)
Jesus, the son of Mary, will descend as an imam and a just ruler to the nation (religion) of the Prophet Muhammad (saas) and will confirm him and will eliminate the antichrist. (Hakim, al-Mustadrak, Vol. II, p. 309)
'There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus, peace be upon him. He will descend (to the earth). When you see him, recognize him: a man of medium height, reddish hair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet. He will fight the people for the cause of Islam. He will break the cross [annul the worship of the cross], kill the pig [inform that eating pork is forbidden], and abolish the jizyah. Allah will cause to perish all religions except Islam. He will destroy the antichrist [make him ineffective] and will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.'" (Abu Dawud, Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud and Thirmizi, Great Hadith Collection, Rudani, V:5, p. 380)
He will accept no other religion than Islam … He will be a spiritual guide … No other being or entity than Allah will be worshipped… (Ruhu'l Meani, 7/60)
Jesus [pbuh] will not come to the people of Mohammed as a Prophet, but to practice the religion of Mohammed. (al-Alusi, Al-Jawab al-fasth, I, 835)
Jesus (pbuh) will descend and will practice our Prophet's (may God bless him and grant him peace) law. (Abu ’l-Muntaha, Al-Fiqh al-Akbar)
He will judge by the law of Mohammed, will adhere to a Prophet even though he is one himself, and will belong to the people of Mohammed… He will be the people of the Prophet, and he will be the most devoted among them… (Adwa' al-Bayan by al-Shinqit, VII, 273)
