The human soul is created in a way that takes pleasure in beauty, cleanness, order and aesthetic. Allah will predestine all of these beauties to His servants whom He is pleased with in the Garden where an incredible perfection and magnificence will prevail.
When we think about the perfection of the Garden, we imagine the most beautiful sceneries and the most spectacular places of the world in our minds. But there is no doubt that even the most beautiful places of the world have flaws and even the most beautiful city is very ordinary when compared to the upmost aesthetic and glorious cities of the Garden. However, perfection is a trait common to the Garden only.
The Garden is the perfect place that we don’t feel any of the weaknesses, flaws and helplessness felt and known to this world. People will not feel the need to sleep or to clean and renews themselves, they will not feel tiredness even though they play sports or do other things, they won’t feel hunger or fullness after eating the things they like as much as they can, or they won’t feel any discomfort as a result of what they have eaten, they won’t hear any kind of disturbing voice or behavior from anyone. There will be place where there is no ugliness or lie and where there is beauty, blessing, comfort and restfulness in wherever they look.
The Garden described by our Lord with the verse, “Seeing them, you see delight and a great kingdom.” (Surat al-Insan, 20) is composed of very beautiful cities decorated with mansions and palaces engraved with precious stones, and greeneries as well as gardens full of flowers, arcs and river-shaped waters. Our Prophet (saas) pointed this out in one of his hadiths:
In the Garden there is a gold pillar with cities of beryl [a bright, green precious stone resembling emerald] on it, and these shine like stars in the Garden… (Ahmad Diya ad-Din al-Kamushkhanawi, Ramuz al-Ahadith, vol. 1, p. 125/6)
But some people think that the Garden is composed of never-ending greeneries, slowly floating waterfalls or rivers. But the beauties in the Garden are not limited with these. In the Qur’an and the hadiths of our Prophet (saas), it is revealed that the Garden is a place of infinite beauty beyond our imagination. As it is understood from these descriptions, the Garden will be a place where technology, magnificence and many more blessings will exist abundantly. As it is revealed in the verse the Garden “as wide as the heavens and the earth…” (Surat Al‘Imran, 133) is a place, which has a ground and a sky, streets, bazaars, malls and a normal course of life as stated in the hadiths just like the earth but, differently from the earth, which is created on the basis of perfection.
In the Garden, there will be blessings that resemble those in this world; however they will be so flawless and perfect in such a manner that they cannot be compared with the ones in this world. For example, the food and drinks of the Garden are so delicious, marvelous and satisfactory such that they cannot be compared with those of this world. In addition, there are no weaknesses like hunger or thirst, and the people of the Garden will be rewarded with incredibly delicious food and very tasty drinks that cause no drunkenness and that will appeal to their lower selves whenever they wish. The food and drinks of the Garden will never end and there will great abundance and prosperity till eternity.
The people of the Garden will be able to eat and drink these food and drinks without any discomfort and as much as they like, as another blessing from our Lord, Allah. Furthermore, earthly flaws such as waiting for a food to be cooked or a fruit to ripen, or having to wash fruits and vegetables before eating them, do not exist in the Garden. In the Garden, a person who wants to eat a food will find it ready in front of him or her just as he or she imagines it, will take and eat the fruits right from the branch and see that it has been replaced with a new one immediately.
The clothes of the Garden will be so beautiful in a way that they cannot be compared with the most beautiful clothes in this world. As Allah reveals in the verse, “They will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade...” (Surat al-Insan, 21) the clothes of the people of the Garden will be made up of the most quality fabrics such as silk and atlas in different colors. The hadith of our Prophet (saas) where he describes the features of the clothes of the Garden is as follows:
... None of them is lacking in anything, so nobody will be distressed by the fine clothing they see on others. They wear finer clothes, which it would take an eternity to describe... [Ash-Sharani, Mukhtasar Tazkirah al-Qurtubi, p. 325-326/563]
Almighty Allah reveals that there will be an abundance of jewelry and precious stones in the Garden, with the verse, “They will enter Gardens of Eden where they will be adorned with gold bracelets and pearls, and where their clothing will be of silk.” (Surah Fatir, 33).
One of the hadith that mentions pearls as a blessing in the Garden is as follows:
… Those who dwell in the Garden of Eternity will wear crowns encrusted with pearls, the radiance of the smallest of which will illuminate the space separating the east from the west! (At-Tirmidhi) [Ahmad Diya ad-Din al-Kamushkhanawi, Ramuz al-Ahadith -1, p. 99/8]
No doubt those mentioned here are only a small part of the blessings in the Garden. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah reveales many verses about the Garden and Hell and commands believers to compete for the Garden:
Race each other to forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the people who guard against evil: (Surah al ‘Imran, 133)
