Schröder: There is no conflict between Islam and a modern, enlightened society

Stating on a visit to Istanbul that Islamic civilization and modernity are totally compatible with one another, Schröder stressed that co-existence with Islam is important for the whole world, not just for Europe. Schröder went on to say that Turkey could be a model for other Muslim countries near Europe and that this would be a huge benefit for Europe. 

Turkey occupies the minds of European statesmen because of the administrative ability it has inherited. Schröder is also aware that the Turkish Republic is the only country that can bring peace to the Middle East, the Caucasus and Europe and also preserve the peace established.
