Mr. Davutoglu: There Is Press Ethics; There Should Also Be Internet Ethics

Mr. Adnan Oktar has said that during the Gezi protests, the members of some communist groups organized over Twitter and the people were unaware of this. He said that it is vital that the people are informed about this and detailed precautions need to be taken on social media.

Mr. Davutoglu made a similar statement on a television program he recently attended.

ADNAN OKTAR: Are they going to censor the Internet? Those who say, “We will become like China when it comes to the Internet” are wrong. When someone swears, he will remove that expression. It will not stay on for days. They used to do that and it stayed for months. By the time that the courts reached a ruling, everyone has already seen it so they will hasten the procedure. It is a good thing. Exaggerating this is not nice. For example, if you get a  ruling that would normally take six months in only six hours, this is justice and it is a blessing. Why wait for days?

ADNAN OKTAR: Communists who are participating inside an illegal group practically take an academy-level training about organized movements and how to carry out organized activities. For example, how to communicate during a conflict in the city, how to organize the people, how to provoke people, how to spread provocative news, how to make such news, where someone needs to hide when the provocation begins, what methods to use to disable the police force: They take training on this in an academic sense for months or years.

So do our people have counter training? Do they know what to do when there is a communist movement? Do they know what to do when communists are on the move? A majority of the people doesn't know anything; therefore our people need to be educated against communism. The people need to be enlightened against the communist danger with TRT, radio, televisions or meetings, books and journals. Otherwise people could be taken unawares.

For example, against information pollution it could be said, “Get correct information from these pages on Facebook or from these television channels.” And there must be a constant information flow against this kind of information pollution; when wrong information comes, correct information must be given right away with evidence. In a short time;for example, communists know very well how to demoralize people. Our people must be educated about this.

ADNAN OKTAR: The structure in Turkey is conservative and traditional so Turkey is not a good base ground for communism. But the people are not organized. They don't know what to do. For example, someone shouts  from somewhere and another shouts from somewhere else. For example, someone says, “Should we say something or write an article?”; they can’t decide. The Communists’ slogans  are already determined; we will say this and we will walk from this road and do this; everything is planned. But the people don't have a plan.

If our people become conscious enough and know how to use Twitter and Facebook effectively, it will be good. For example, the state must organize the people.  Information like; “In this case, you can get the correct information from here. You need to do this. You can say such and such”, etc., that sort of thing.

Mr. Davutoglu said that he is all for freedom of the press but some illegal actions that cannot be done in  the press are easily carried out on the internet. During the Gezi protests, he noted, there was a call for  a raid on an address given on Twitter and such  a call could stay on the internet for many days. He stated that such type of personal crimes will be evaluated as criminal actions on the internet as well and that the current legislative regulation was to ensure this.
