Islam becomes Ireland's second religion

According to a survey by the Central Statistics Office of Ireland, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the country.

In 1991, the Muslim population made up only one thousandth of the total population. This figure increased by 10 percent by 2011: Currently, there are around 49,000 Muslims residing in Ireland. In 2020, this figure is forecast to surpass 100,000. 

The Irish authorities have funded the establishment of an Islamic facility on a 5,573 square meter area. This facility will include a mosque, a cultural center, a library, a bookstore, a nursery and a fitness center.
