Imam Rabbani has said that many portents described in the hadiths would take place before the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as), and almost all of these portents have been fulfilled

Imam Rabbani reported that a great many portents would take place before the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as) and described these signs as marvelous states:

THE COMING OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) IS CLOSE AT HAND. MANY INITIAL AND PRELIMINARY SIGNS WILL TAKE PLACE BEFORE THE TIME OF HIS COMING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CENTURY...

HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) IS GREATER. Because of him, a great strengthening will come to Islam and to Muslims. Even his guardianship has great evident and immanent power of disposal. He will possess many marvelous states and God given power of working miracles. IN HIS TIME, MANY ASTONISHING STATES WILL MAKE THEIR APPEARANCE... SUPERNATURAL MARVELS WILL TAKE PLACE before the coming of his physical body.

All these marvels stated by Imam Rabbani have taken place in the last 30 years, beginning in the year 1400 according to the Islamic calendar, in a miraculous manner, “like the beads of a necklace” in the words of our Prophet (saas).

Rasulullah (saas) said:
"… let them expect portents taking place one after the other like the beads of a necklace whose string has snapped.”

Tirmidhi.

The signs of the Last Day will follow one another. Like beads strung out one behind the other.

The portents of the End Times, of which just a few are cited below, totally invalidate the claims made by certain people that Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear in a later century:

Imam Rabbani has given the appearance of a double-toothed, light-shedding star as an important sign, so much so that he has described all the characteristics of that star right down to the finest detail:

According to the companions’ reports, Rasulullah (saas) said: "When the King of Abbasid reaches Khorasan, one of the signs of the coming of the promised Mahdi, A DOUBLE-TOOTHED, LIGHT-SHEDDING HORN WILL APPEAR IN THE EAST.”

According to a footnote to this account, that pillar will have two heads...

THAT WHITENESS APPEARING IN THE EAST; IT WAS FIRST IN THE FORM OF A RADIANT PILLAR. THEN A CURVATURE CAME TO IT AND IT TOOK THE FORM OF A HORN.

It is very probable that therefore:

-its being called two-headed is because:

BOTH SIDES ARE NARROW AND RESEMBLE TEETH; THEREFORE BOTH SIDES ARE ACCEPTED AS THE HEAD. Therefore, if a blade has two sides

It is described as double-headed.

My brother Sheikh Muhammad Takhir Badahshi came from Confor. He says:

-THERE ARE TWO HEADS ON THE UPPER PART OF THAT PILLAR. THEY RESEMBLE TWO TEETH. THERE IS A SHORT SPACE BETWEEN THEM.

This was recognized at the desert.

The same report was also given by another community.

But this birth is not that which will appear at the coming of the Mahdi. THAT IS BECAUSE HIS APPEARANCE WILL BE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CENTURY. Eighteen years have currently gone by since the beginning of the century.

The hadith says this about the portents of Hazrat Mahdi (as):

"A TAILED STAR (COMET) WILL BE BORN IN THE EAST AND SHED ITS LIGHT."

THAT COMET HAS BEEN BORN. BUT IS IT THAT ONE, OR ANOTHER SIMILAR ONE?

That this star is called a comet, is probably based on the following:

-The course of the constant IS FROM WEST TO EAST (4)...

THE SITUATION OF THIS STAR FOLLOWS THIS COURSE. IN OTHER WORDS, ITS HEAD FACES EAST AND ITS TAIL FACES WEST. THE LONG WHITE PART IS IN ITS REAR. THEREFORE:

-It is appropriate for it to be described as having a tail.
ITS DAILY PASSAGE, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS FROM EAST TO WEST. (5)

Allah best knows the truth.

Imam Rabbani’s statement “THAT COMET HAS BEEN BORN BUT IS IT THAT ONE, OR ANOTHER SIMILAR ONE?” suggests that the comet he describes in such detail will not appear in his own time. If the comet Lulin, whose features entirely match those in the description and which came closest to the Earth on 24 February, 2009, had been seen at that time, then there is no doubt that Imam Rabbani would have made this perfectly clear and certain. The fact that this portent, which he regards as one of the main proofs of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as), did not take place in his own time represents evidence that Hazrat Mahdi (as) did not appear in that time and that he will appear in a later century when that comet is seen.

Imam Rabbani says that Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear at a time when people openly and blatantly live a blasphemous life style that totally conflicts with the moral values of the Qur’an:

... In one hadith Rasulullah (saas) says:

“THE MAHDI WILL NOT COME UNTIL BLASPHEMY APPEARS AND OPENLY RULES AMONG THE COMMUNITY. WHAT HAPPENS AT THAT TIME IS THE INVASION OF BLASPHEMY, ITS POWER. THE WEAKNESS OF ISLAM AND MUSLIMS.

That time is the period described by our Prophet (saas) as when the people of Islam will be weak. Great happiness to them. In addition, Rasulullah (saas) has imparted them tidings.

The time when Imam Rabbani was alive were the very brightest years of Islam. There was a caliph leading the Muslim world. Therefore, the blasphemous system did not dominate the world as described in the hadith when Imam Rabbani was alive. That means it must refer to a period after that of Imam Rabbani, to a time of madness when people have turned their backs on the moral values of Islam, and that this is the time when Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear. A repressive system will dominate the Islamic world at the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as), and Muslims will have no spiritual leader. The time described by our Prophet (saas), when all kinds of irreligious systems are fully developed, is the End Times, and that means the period we are living in today. And the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as) will also therefore coincide with the time we are living in now.

Just as described by our Prophet (saas), the waters of the River Euphrates were stopped by a dam built in 1400 according to the Islamic calendar.

Soon the river Euphrates will disclose the treasure (the mountain) of gold, so whoever will be present at that time should not take anything of it.

Our Prophet (saas) speaks of the invasion of Afghanistan in one hadith;

Pity poor Taliqan (a region in Afghanistan) that at that place are treasures of Allah, but these are not of gold and silver but consist of people who have recognized Allah as they should have. They are the helpers of the Mahdi of End of Times.

The Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, or 1400 by the Islamic calendar, confirms this hadith.

Our Prophet (saas) has also reported eclipses of the Sun and Moon in two successive years in the month of Ramadan as portents of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as).

“There are two signs for the Mahdi... The first one is the lunar eclipse in the first night of Ramadan, and the second is the solar eclipse in the middle of this month.

(Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi' 'Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 47)

There will be two solar eclipses in one Ramadan before the Mahdi's advent.

The solar eclipse in the middle of the Ramadan, and the lunar eclipse at the end . . . .

It has reached me that before the Mahdi emerges the moon will be eclipsed twice in Ramadan.

Eclipses of the sun and moon took place one after the other and during the month of Ramadan in 1400 (1981 and 1982). The hadith was thus fulfilled by these celestial phenomena in 1981 and 1982.

Halley’s comet, which passes by the Earth once every 76 years, also passed by in 1986 (1406 according to the Islamic calendar), and another portent described in the hadith of our Prophet (saas) thus came about;

A star with a luminous tail will rise from the east before the Mahdi emerges.

Another hadith of our Prophet (saas);

“ ... A FIRE WILL CERTAINLY APPEAR FROM AZERBAIJAN. And nothing will be able to stand in its way. Stay in your homes when this happens....”

(Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Nomani, al-Ghaybah al-Nomani p. 311)

again took place in the year 1400 (Islamic calendar) with the Armenian invasion of the region known as Nagorno Karabagh, belonging to Azerbaijan.

A terrible massacre took place at the Kaaba during the hajj in 1979 (1 Muharram, 1400, according to the Islamic calendar). This date is the first day of the year 1400. Thirty people lost their lives. In the hadith our Prophet (saas);

The year in which he (Hazrat Mahdi (as)) will emerge, people will perform hajj together and gather without an imam. The Hajjis will be looted, and there will be a battle at Mina in which many will be slain and blood will flow until it runs over the Jamra al-'Aqaba. [Jamra: a stone pillar representing Satan that is stoned during the pilgrimage.]

This means that “the year which Hazrat Mahdi (as) will emerge” will be that when such a major event takes place at the Kaaba. This expression is exceedingly important. Because the date of the incident and that of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as) both indicate the year 1979. Seven years after 1979, again during the hajj, another bloody incident took place. This time 402 people were killed. But in contrast to the first incident, this one took place alongside the Kaaba rather than inside it. These two incidents are completely compatible with the description on the hadith of “an attack on the Kaaba and bloodshed in the Kaaba,” cited as portents of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as).

The portents of the End Times are one complete whole, and the fact that these portents have taken place in the space of 30 years shows that we are living in the End Times of which our Prophet (saas) spoke, and also heralds the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as), awaited with great hope and excitement by all Muslims. For that reason, all the portents, known as major and minor portents, are of the greatest importance to Muslims. Seeing any of these portents taking place reinforces Muslims’ hopes, increases their fervor and greatly enhances their excitement.
