Greece Must Not Prepare Its Own Doom!

2228

Alexis Tsipras, leader of the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), who won the snap general election in our Western neighbor, refused to take his oath of office on the Bible as Greek law demands. Tsipras made do with a political oath, thus sending his first message to the Christian Greek people; there was now a communist administration in power, and religious and sacred values, even if only symbolic, would no longer have any place on the state agenda.

A Name Indistinguishable from Communism: Tsipras

Alexis Tsipras is known to have been molded by Marxist ideology since his youth. He joined the Communist Youth of Greece when he was still a student and played an active role in Marxist student activities and radical leftist groups in the 1990s.

SYRIZA, the radical left party he later came to lead, was insignificant in the 2009 elections, winning just 4.6% of the vote. Nobody took it seriously compared to parties as successful as PASOK, with their 44%.

Today, however, worn down by the trauma of a string of serious economic and political crises, the Greek people have - with their own hands - brought to power a party they never took seriously a short while before. The communist SYRIZA and its atheist leader topped the poll with 36.3% of the vote from the Christian Orthodox Greek people.

SYRIZA is a radical party composed of a number of extreme leftist groups. It includes groups of all shades of communist thinking: Marxist, Leninist, Stalinist, Maoist and Trotskyite.

Naturally, Tsipras' Cabinet is also made up of members of this communist mosaic. For example, Nikos Kotzias, known for his Stalinist past, has been made foreign minister.

The Wave of Excitement Sweeping over the Communists

The coming to power in a country such as Greece of a radical leftist party has inevitably led to a wave of excitement among the left across the world, especially in Europe. Representatives of the left in such countries as Spain, Italy, France and Germany monitored the election very closely. Representatives of the German Die Linke party are saying, “We start from Greece – We change Europe.”

Various leftist coalitions and parties in European countries have begun adopting the SYRIZA model as the secret of success. One part of the left is painting visions of utopias and talking about a new age in Europe based on the example of SYRIZA.

Parties of socialist origin, such as Turkey’s HDP, have also been making excited comments about the global rise of the left and hope for a left-wing victory in the upcoming June elections. HDP Joint-Chairman Selahattin Demirtaş sent congratulatory tweets to the atheist Tsipras in Turkish and Greek, addressing him as “my brother.”

In brief, the left attaching such hope and significance to a very different event such as the Greek elections has once again revealed the mentality of romantic socialism.

It Was Protesters and the Despairing Who Brought SYRIZA to Power, Not Leftists

The fact is that the entire situation in Greece is nothing more than the despair of the Greek people, wearied by crises, poverty and austerity, stemming from a reaction against the EU and their placing their hopes desperately in a party that promises a rosy future.

It is not leftist talk that has brought SYRIZA to power, but empty promises that will be impossible to keep, such as “an end to austerity,” “unlimited economic aid for the poor,” “free electricity, housing, food and medicine,” “75% taxes on the rich,” “employment for everyone” and “a minimum wage of 750 Euros per month.”

Once these utopian promises are set in motion in a country in such dire financial straits as Greece, it will only be a matter of time until they trigger a new crisis and tragedy.

In addition to making such promises, Tsipras is also threatening the “Troika” (The European Commission, the IMF and the European Central Bank) with not paying back its debts. Nationalist talk, ironically incompatible with his communist ideology, has taken in one segment of the Greek people who are suffering badly because of the ongoing crisis.

Greece on the Brink

Greece, which has no industry, which dislikes working, whose primary revenue is from tourism and which lost out badly when it adopted the Euro has been the scene of enormous economic instability and social tragedies over the last 10 years.

As if all that were not enough, the Greek people have today brought to power a party that rejects all sacred values such as religion, the family, the state and morality. Sadly, that choice has led them to the brink of a tragedy even worse than the current one.

Credit institutions have adopted a most negative view of Greece’s position. The entire EU, and especially Germany, is watching with alarm.

It seems certain that unbalanced and unstable policies of a radical leftist government will soon ruin the economy and lead to even greater misery. It goes without saying that a nation which is, quite bluntly, bankrupt has not one ounce of leverage nor can the governing SYRIZA administration keep its promises. It is not hard to foresee that under such conditions the leftist coalition will soon be dispensed with by a no-confidence vote or resign.

It is therefore essential for the devout and loving Greek people, who attach such importance to moral values, to make good their mistake while there is still time and bring to power a rational and stable administration. Such emergency measures as close friendly and brotherly relations with Turkey, close trade links, the mutual abandonment of the visa regime and free movement across the borders on the part of such an administration will be the most important agents in the resurrection and regeneration of Greece.

A strong Greece and a strong Turkey in the region mean a strong Europe.

Insha’Allah.
