Former Head of Turkey's General Staff Intelligence Department: “Missile Defense System Critical for Deterrence”

What He Said?What Happened?

Mr. Adnan Oktar frequently reflects the importance of the provisioning of our army with advanced weapons in their fight against the PKK for deterrence. Mr. Oktar says that it would be very efficient for the Turkish Armed Forces to focus particularly on long and short-range rockets.

Former Head of Turkey's General Staff Intelligence Department, İsmail Hakki Pekin, in his article for Al Jazeera, addressed this issue which was also highlighted by Mr. Oktar.

ADNAN OKTAR: But, particularly, missiles. Long-range missiles and short-range missiles. Land-to-land and land-to-air. Particularly, land-to-air defense missiles are critical. Indeed, the most critical weapon is air defense missiles as far as I can see. In other words, the missiles keeping out other planes and missiles. These would be an effective deterrent. Since, if they know that you have such missile, it would keep them away. It is necessary to be careful.

ADNAN OKTAR: We should arm ourselves in an efficient way and the arsenal should be enlarged considerably. For instance, there should be very comprehensive arsenals two hundred meters below the surface. For instance, may God forbid, there should be an ammunition to survive for ten years during a war.

Particularly, missile technology should be developed. With a simple technology, they can build gyro-controlled rockets, which would not cost an arm and a leg. The important thing is the number of them. The more there are, the disturbing and deterrant it would be.

ADNAN OKTAR: Missiles, the most important thing is missiles. A tank can be destroyed with a single mine. A plane can be taken down by a tiny rocket from a  shoulder-fired piece. However, rockets are perfect, hard to take down. No human life would be lost, and it would also be very deterrent. There should be separate rockets that can reach the range of one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand, five thousand, ten thousand kilometres. How many? At least a million and under ground. Steel. There would be rockets with steel covers, and these covers would be jettisonable under the surface from land to land. From land to air. That would be nice. In order to be a  deterrent, as surely we do not want to hurt anyone.

ADNAN OKTAR: Almighty God says that keeping your strength and power available deters the irreligious in verse 60 of Surat al-Anfal. For that reason, we will deter blasphemy by means of advanced weapons, particularly by improving the missile industry. For instance, the missiles with the range of one thousand, two thousand, three thousand kilometers.  There should be 400 or 500,000  of these missiles with a short range and 50 to 100,000   others. We would be the most powerful country in the region in terms of military when we have three to five  thousand  multi-range missiles. It would not be possible with tanks or cannons. They could destroy them from the air but not the missiles. Indeed, not a chance when we have that number of missiles. The deterrence of missiles is terrific.

December 22nd 2014: A9 TV

ADNAN OKTAR: The mechanical and chemical industry should develop long-range missiles. It would be deterrent. The missiles with a range of ten thousand kilometres at least. With a range of five thousand kilometres. And lots of missiles. The focus should be on missiles. The most important power of the Turkish Armed Forces would be based on missiles. It would not be possible with tanks or cannons. Missiles would be very deterrent. Turkey should have tens of  thousands, hundreds of thousands of them. It is missiles that the PKK are most afraid of. As the verse also reads; I seek refuge in God from satan. God says: "Keep your power available." Missiles are those deterrent powers.

İsmail Hakki Pekin, Former Head of Turkey's General Staff Intelligence Department, set pen to paper and stated in regard to the need for reform in the Navy and Air Force for Al Jazeera :

“The violation of airspace and harassment of Turkey's F-16 jets by Russian war planes has sparked debates over Turkey's air defense force. Although there have been some critical projects associated in the recent years, Turkey still does not have a missile defense system.

Air and Naval Forces are indispensable both for the Turkish Armed Forces and for being an active and a deterrent power in the region.

Turkey's air defense mission is controlled by the Air Forces. Turkey's air defense has been focused on aircraft forces since the Cold War and Turkey does not have any other high-altitude and long-range air defense missile other than NIKE missiles. NIKE missiles, which are the only power we have, are a 50-year old technology and out of condition. Turkey has only one battery available since others are out of condition.

Furthermore, Turkey also lacks a defense system against ballistic missiles, posing a major threat currently. Despite all the efforts of the last 15 years, we have not anything yet. In this geography in which it is located, Turkey requires these systems. An air defense system based only on aircraft forces would not qualify."
