Allah: The Closest and Truest Friend

852

Imagine a real friend. A friend who never leaves you alone, who always loves, protects and wants the best for you, who meets all your needs before you even realize them, who is trustworthy, will never leave your side for all eternity, who will always love you and who asks only love and loyalty in return. For believers, that friend is Allah. He is a person’s finest friend and best helper.

Everyone, all throughout his life, seeks a rich and capable friend and a helpmate he can trust. It is in fact Almighty Allah, He Who has the power to do all things, the Creator of man.

Allah is infinitely powerful, omniscient and the creator of infinite variety. Receiving His strength and support means enjoying the greatest strength and support in the world. Human beings are utterly weak; they can do nothing for themselves unless Allah so wishes.

All the functions in the human body take place by Allah’s will. For one single enzyme to fail to work would put an end to functions vital to human beings. That example alone shows us how we need our Almighty Lord at every breath and in all we do.

The love and friendship of Almighty Allah, the Creator of the universe, the atom and all the worlds, is more important than anyone’s interest and affection. Someone who has Allah’s support enjoys the greatest support of all. With Allah’s help and support human beings, feeble entities, can achieve a great deal; their paths are made easy by Allah’s leave.

No, Allah is your Protector. And He is the best of helpers.” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 150)

Allah, Who creates the world as a place of testing, has also provided many blessings for His servants. Everything one might need and all the conditions one might love were created before one ever came into being. Allah prepared the fresh air we will breathe, the beautiful birds flying in the sky, thousands of varieties of plants, lovely flowers, matchless blessings, the people we love, the cute and exquisite creatures that will stir our hearts, a flawless system of balances and many other details.

Allah also sent down a Book, from which nothing has been left out, via His messengers, to act as a guide for people for the life of this world, the test: This is the Qur’an, which contains all subjects a person will need and describes the ways of winning His approval.

This is a Book We have sent down to you so that you can bring mankind from the darkness to the light, by the permission of their Lord, to the Path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.” (Surah Ibrahim, 1)

A person’s duty is to act as a servant who turns to Allah alone and to shape his life in line with the approval of his true friend, Almighty Allah, Who created for him the finest details with His omniscience. Allah alone is worthy of being loved, remembered, lauded, trusted and turned to as a true friend. Allah is He Who loves and forgives His servants, Who wishes the best for them, Who is merciful to them and helps them and Who bestows blessings on them for no reward.

It is a requirement of faith for a Muslim, who is aware that Allah has created every moment and everything he encounters throughout his life, to place complete trust in Allah. Allah says, And put your trust in Allah. Allah suffices as a Guardian.” (Surat al-Ahzab, 3) Allah loves those servants who put their trust in Him.

However, he must also not forget that the friendship of Allah by no means resembles that of people. Whomever He takes as His friend, He has always bestowed the most sublime blessings on that person in this world, and in the hereafter. It is a great blessing for our Lord, the Creator of all, to take His creation as His friend.

One of the Names of Allah: Al-Mawla

(The Protector, The Master, Friend of Believers, He Who Smoothes Their Path and Gives Them Victory)

“… hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector – the Best Protector, the Best Helper.” (Surat al-Hajj, 78)

Allah is the true Lord of all. And since the believer takes Him as his guardian, he will be free from all troubles and woes throughout his life. Above all, Our Lord’s, his greatest friend’s help and support are with him. Allah sends down “His serenity” (Surat at-Tawba, 26) on the servants He protects.

That serenity is born from the believer knowing that our Lord sees him at every prayer, in every good deed and in everything, great or small, that he does for Allah’s approval, and that he will be rewarded for them all many times over. It is also a feeling of security stemming from knowing that Allah supports believers with unseen forces and angels, “...in front of him and behind him, guarding him by Allah’s command”(Surah Rad, 11), that they will be victorious in the struggle on His path and that they will be rewarded with Paradise. A believer also knows that Allah, our Protector, will impose no more on anyone than he can bear. This state of mind of Muslims is reported as follows in the Qur’an:

Say: ‘Nothing can happen to us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is Our Master. It is in Allah that the believers should put their trust’.” (Surat at-Tawba, 51)
