A 13-story cultural center including a mosque, public soup kitchen, some gymnasiums, theatre and swimming pool, is going to be built near the area where the Twin Towers collapsed on September 11, 2001 in New York. A Muslim group named as Cordoba Initiative (CI) proposed the project to the Municipality of New York. The center is planned to be built in an area where there is an old textile factory standing two blocks away from the destroyed Towers in Manhattan. CI’s Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, told that the mosque will be established in an area which is called as Ground Zero, and will open its doors to everyone while removing away any unfavorable belief against Muslims after September 11 attacks.
